Undocumented: Darcos Besson and intractable - November 23, 2009

"My mission is not to intervene in the matter of regulation, but to combat illegal work in all its forms." This is the final answer that Xavier Darcos delivered yesterday, via an interview with the Parisian, the unions (CGT, CFDT, SUD and FSU) came looking for him on the issue of employment of 5 500 undocumented on strike for a month in 1 800 companies. The latter, dissatisfied with the negotiations with the Immigration Minister, Eric Besson, the criteria for regulation, had tried their luck with the Minister of Labor. Yesterday, Eric Besson said on France 5 that he would file shortly a bill to toughen measures against companies that employ undocumented workers.

Sunday, Xavier Darcos unveiled its fight against illegal employment."We will strengthen existing controls and resort to sanctions that affect the wallets and corporate image."

Firms employing illegal aliens and will be closed administratively. These are the prefects who will inherit this new power. In case of closure, the compensation payable to employees will still be paid, including foreign workers who have been repatriated to their country. The Minister also announced sanctions against contractors who turn a blind eye to the hidden job with their subcontractors.The exemptions from social charges could include deleted.

Finally, Xavier Darcos meet on Thursday the National Commission to fight against undeclared work – which comprises the unions and all relevant body control – to set for 2010 and 2011 priorities and goals. Indicating that, in 2008, 28 000 inspections were conducted by his department, he said "aim for a plan even higher." He will announce "objectives specific progress" in this sense. "I want to promote the culture of performance," says he.
